DVD's and computers..anyway to play dvd's bye downloading them

Hi I own about 125 misc. dvds and need to back them up and i just bought a 160gb hard drive $30 so I thought i would back some of them up. so I stuck the dvd into the dvd drive on my computer and then did windows explorer and hghlighted all the files on the dvds then sent them to my hard drive but after the file transfer I still can't figure out how to download dvd's to my computer and watch them without the dvd. Is there some trick to this? I've expiremented with dvd rippers but they don'y work so good. are they the only way to download dvd's that you already own to your computer?

Rippers are the only way with encrypted DVDs. You should be able to copy unencrypted discs with Windows Explorer directly.

If you try to copy it and it doesn't play off your HDD then it is encrypted. And generally any new movie you get will WILL be encrypted. So you'll need to do more than just copy it to the HDD.
