I have a GF4.

What will installing DX9 benefit me? I reckon if DX9 doesn't give me any performance increase I will stick to DX8.

It helped the Radeon cards out a little bit.. Not too sure about nVidia's.

Since DirectX 9 isn't going to be used for awhie in games, you should just leave it alone. (eg.. If ain't broke, don't fix it).

OR, you could set a system restore point (If you are using Windows XP) and install it. If you don't like it, just restore back to your old system settings.

Alternatively you can back up your current direct3D dll & place it in the game directory of any games you feel have lost performance or whatever after updating to DX9. This should allow you to use the DirectX 8 Direct3D rendere then.

I have installed DX9 on my system. I have a GeForce 4 TI4600 and it seems to have given me a slight performance increase in most games and 3D applications. I recommend it, but as Rick says, you might want to create a restore point.
