Apple is to ridged in their iOS options. Apple Store tends to have less apps, and Apple has been caught throttling phones as they age. Now, it used to be that the BIG important difference was that Android phones like Samsung had room for an expansion card for my drive space. I don't know if it's for all phones now, but last time I asked at a local store, Samsung had removed the ability to use a memory card for more storage...

Is that for all Samsung phones? What about other Android phones? Personally I think it's going to hurt their bottom line, but I guess we'll have to wait and see.

An Apple Developer License costs $100 bucks. You could technically deploy your apps on your own device once you register your device. I know it's not free, but $100 bucks a year is all it costs and if you wanted to deploy to the app store, you could. That's what I do. lol

lol. But I _dont_ want to deploy anything to app store, I don't want other people having slightest idea on what app I made and use, and... why should I pay yearly a company to run my own code on my own device?
Not sure if you were joking or if you're serious. But if you really are ready to give all your ownership and happy to pay any ridiculous fees for some made-up reasons aimed to make you just a cash machine for big corpos then surely there is not much we can talk about.
Why should I go through all that trouble if I can get an Android device which meets my requirements? The problem is with the choice - I'd be more than happy to actually have such a choice when buying a phone, yet I'm limited to only one OS, because other one care only about shareholders and do not wish to accommodate mases. So, this way or another, it is a duopoly, and that is worst case possible for us as consumers.

Apples ecosystem just works. All devices work with each other with almost seamless integration. My Apple Watch Ultra and Apple watch 8 (I use one for sports and other for dress), no problem, automatically are live the second I put it on. Connectivity to my phone and just about everything else I own.

AirPods connect to all of my Apple devices without having to sync. They just work. Doesn't matter which device I pick up, they are available to use.

iPhone/iPad act as one in the same with imessage and everything else.

Crapple TV can be controlled by any of my devices and also can act as a gaming rig or screen mirror of my Apple devices.

The UI on all devices is familiar and pretty damn easy to navigate, but over the years they've kind of bloated it.

I don't need a customized phone. I just want to pick it up and go. I don't look at it except when needed. Call me a fanboy, lemmings, whatever. Don't care. Me, my wife and daughters are all on my family account and everything is just so neatly tied.

Lastly, we are NOT inundated with ads or have had even one security issue with our devices. Just turn on auto-updates and let the a$$holes at Crapple just keep them up to date. LOL.

I understand there are good features for Apple phones. I do think they are high quality in general and if the whole family uses Apple then everyone is in sync.

That said Apple in general is still expensive. I also don't like the idea of them controlling what I can and can not do with my phone.

Again I got a Pixel 7 for $499....$199 after trade in. It was considered by some to be the best phone of 2022. I just can't see the justification to pay extra for Apple.

... That is so inaccurate. There are security issues and some of them takes quite a time to get fixed.

My wife and daughter use apple phones and I just can't understand why. I think in part it's the "cool" phone or something because I just can't see the appeal.

I had been using Samsung for years and just picked up the new Google Pixel 7 which has been an awesome phone so far. The OS and camera are both really impressive...but I guess it doesn't have the super cool apple logo.

Or maybe they are just smart and want reliable products.

Or... they just make hardware and software that actually works. And they support them for like 6-7 years, which none of the Android phone makers can brag about. None. I tried even Android One phones, and guess what, updates sometimes came months later, or not at all. While the WHOLE POINT of Android One is to be up-to-date at all times. And I'm not talking about 3rd party "cooked" cr@p, I'm talking about official support. On iOS, I get the update on day one, on any carrier, in any country. Period.

I'm always baffled how obsessed some Android users are with Apple users. Makes me wonder, if they're so happy about their own choices, why do they get so angry when other people make different choices? What's the source of their insecurity about their own decisions? Are they having second thoughts? Is it cognitive dissonance?

I personally couldn't care less about Android. All I want is for Android zealots to stop calling me names ("zombies", "iSheep", and other very "clever" kindergarten stuff), and stop telling me what I'm supposed to think about my phone or its maker. Just leave us alone. Enjoy your "superior" OS and let us be.

Support is a HUGE deal with apple. To the tech illiterate joe, if you have an apple phone and the screen stops working, or the battery stops working, many can take it to an apple store and get it repaired. Samsung? Yeah, take it down to the sketchy corner shop and hope they dont screw it up.

My grandma got a new battery in her iphone 6s, 6 years after buying it. $49. Now show me someone still selling and installing new batteries on demand for a HTC phone, or a samsung J3 from 2015.

The UI doesnt change. Ever. If you have ever used an iphone, you know how to use an iphone. Android? Move from a LG to a samsung phone, and you are totally lost (again, not tech savvy users).

Then there is carrier BS. Most people get phones from their carrier. Guess what the one brand is that doesnt have carrier BS installed, and isnt reliant on said carriers for support? Apple.

Cars are similar. My work iphone integrates far better into any car's bluetooth then android auto does. Auto works, but its little things, like if you have a background video playing the iphone will display the time remaining on the radio screen. Android will not.

hmm...can't say those dilemmas have ever been a real life situation for me.

I have had LG, Samsung and now Google and have never had a problem finding any settings. I mean it's all pretty basic imo and I can't see that being a real issue to be honest. Would seem to me that even a ***** could find these things pretty easily. The layout is all pretty similar in the settings....networks, apps, display, sound...all the same stuff.
Not sure what problem you have with the Samsung UI. I found no issues with it even if I find the Google phones to be better.

Hey, man, I was just trying to provide you with a solution because you seemed like you were looking for one. $100 isn't too bad honestly ($8.33 a month that you can write off on your taxes) and no, you don't have to give your code over to Apple if you don't want too. You literally deploy to your device and that's what the license enables you to do. Granted it's intended to encourage developers to develop to their platform rather than make standalone one-off apps for private use. I've developed for a number of platforms over the years (Windows, Windows Phone, Windows CE, Windows 10 IoT Core, Palm OS, OSX, iOS, Android) and they all have their own rules and requirements. Each year those requirements get more and more restricted (Apple has always been a head of this curve and I'm certain Android will follow this policy eventually). But you're not forced to develop for just one OS only. I think that might be a limitation you're placing on yourself. If you need low-level access on your device, than I suppose you're hooped, but if not, just make a web app and host it on a private web server. Shoot, you could even install an RD Client and remote into a computer if you need too. Plenty of options. From what it sounds like though, you don't need to deploy it on multiple devices anyway. It sounds like you've already found a pretty good solution that works for you. Sorry for the confusion as I should have clarified.

That's the world we live in today unfortunately. Apple's iPhone has been around for 16 years and they haven't changed this policy and I highly doubt they ever will without laws changing that force them too. I realized we all feel entitled to rights that we think we have and the need to be able to do whatever we want but the reality of the situation is we can't and don't have those rights (at the moment). All we can do is work within the confines of the system... or complain on tech websites. I found a solution that works... throw money at the problem.

That's because Samsung launched more than 25 models of phones last year. it's alot but it's much less than what it used to be. I hope they got the number less this year because it's silly to have too much phones between $100 and $500 and then they don't have much between $500 and $800.



to think that there are 3600 new android smartphone model and 90% of them must have been from the chinese manufacturers... soon when you consider a new android phone you won't have much choice.

Most people would not even consider buying a phone for more that 300$
