My eMachines laptop keeps crashing. I've retrieved the minidump files. Could someone tell me what happened? Thanks.

Your first dump log states memory corruption along with a disk hardware error.

Your second dump indicates that important processes and threads needed to run the OS are being teminated. Several processes and threads are necessary for the operation of the system. When they are terminated for any reason, the system can no longer function.

1. I strongly suggest running a MemTest86+ to see if your memory (RAM) is bad. If it is bad you can have all kinds of issues. This test takes several hours to complete, but it is well worth it. Do you have a floppy on your laptop?

2. You might have a harddrive dying.

* Go with testing your memory first.

Could this be caused by the laptop overheating?

Good question. Yes, heat can certainly cause a lot of issues one of which is a PC or Laptop shutting down.

The reason I asked you if you had a floppy was because it is an easy way to run the MemTest86+. However, there is a way to run it from a CD as well, if I am not mistaking.

Try the following because it is the easiest:

1. Increase airflow and see if that helps.

2. Run MemTest.

3. Harddrive diagnostics. I would NOT defrag until you know if the harddrive is the culprit or not.
