Customers Can Burn Up to 8.4GB of Data using Double-layer DVD Burners and Media; Value Desktops Deliver New Level of Features and NVIDIA GeForce Graphics

IRVINE, Calif., April 5, 2006 – Gateway today brings the latest in DVD optical technology – multi-format double-layer DVD-R/RW drives – to its new eMachines desktop PCs starting at just $399.99 after a $50 mail-in rebate.(1) The new eMachines PCs are available now at leading technology and electronics retailers across the United States.

Three of the four PCs in the new eMachines line boast an integrated 16X DVD+/-RW multi-format drive that uses double-layer DVD technology to give digital media enthusiasts more room for their digital photos, music and video. The double-layer drive can burn up to 8.4GB of data on double-layer DVD media – nearly twice the capacity of single-layer media at 4.7GB. As a result, four hours of MPEG-2 video or more than 2000 MP3 songs would now fit on a single DVD.

The PCs comes ready with the software needed to enjoy the advanced DVD functionality. Each of the PCs comes with Cyberlink® PowerDVD and CyberLink Power2Go™ for digital movie creation and playback. All of the new PCs also come with Microsoft ® Digital Image Starter Edition 2006 (with 60-day Digital Image Standard 2006 Trial) for editing and managing digital pictures.

In addition to the advanced new optical technology, each of the four PCs in the new desktop line features integrated NVIDIA GeForce® 6100 graphics supporting DirectX 9.0 for enhanced video, gaming and multimedia. In addition, upgrading the systems for additional graphics capabilities is easy; the PCs are designed with an open PCI Express x16 slot that can house a dedicated graphics card for enhanced video performance for gaming and other graphic-intense applications.

The new PCs also provide an array of productivity software and tools, so customers can enjoy their PC right out of the box. Each of the PCs comes with Microsoft® Works 8.0, 60-day trial of Microsoft® Office® 2003 Student Teacher Edition, Microsoft® Money 2005 and Microsoft® Encarta Online. Makes me wonder how many people will fall into the trap of buying an eMachine!
As seen in the forums, previous models are rubbish. Would these be better?
Questionable, to say the least.
 
only proves the old addage:

you get what you pay for.....AND

There's a sucker born every minute.
 
Oh was playing on one of these at bestbuys it handeled bf2 with a medium resolution and settings.


Not really great through.
