When you have embeded graphics, and you disable them, does it take away the section of shared memory that it was using? or does it give it back to the main system? I was looking into buying an athlon xp mobo and it has onboard graphics, but i wasn't sure if I disabled the graphics, if it would then disable the "Shared memory"??

If the chip is disabled, then it does not use system memory.

Of course, you'll need a real video card.

I'm not sure why you would want to dump the extra cash into something with onboard graphics if you'd just like to replace it with a real video card. Choosing from system board without onboard grahpics usually gives you more options and slightly better prices.
