Emprex dvdrw refuses to recognise disks

Emprex DRW10161M DVD +/- R/RW

Has worked no problems from installation until this week. It now refuses to recognise any blank or used/part-used disks - they simply spin in the thing until I eject them manually, CDRW/CDROM/DVD etc.

It worked perfectly well ...... then nothing. Now? No pop-up box with options as per usual, nada.

Can anyone give this self-confessed technical "dimwit" some help (other than "Bin it")?

Try installing another drive. My wife's Lite-On did the same thing... worked fine, then one day... no workie. A new CD R/W cured the problem

Was hoping to avoid that as £`s in short supply at the moment but if it has to be, then so be it!
