Error Code

Help,
I have win 98se and I can't get it to start.I get an error
code wfatal OD-201F:00000316.I have searched everywhere
I can think(winresources,google,various web sites) for this
code.Please if anyone knows what this code is or where I
can find it,please let me know?

"Error code" is generally a device/driver failure. Sometimes it involves a damaged registry as well.

In this case, things such as disk controllers, IDE bus master drivers, video cards and perhaps soundcards may be fatal.

A simple method of getting past this error message would be to boot from a Windows 98 startup disk (or go straight to command prompt using the F8 key and selecting "Command prompt only").

Type in scanreg /restore

From here, you will be able to select older versions of your registry to replace your current "bad" one. Choose one that had been created prior to your problems and it should fix your problem.

IF that doesn't work, try booting in Safe Mode (press F8 at the instant Windows shows the Windows 98 boot screen). If you can boot in safemode, this means your problem is probably fixable.

Since "error codes" are device related, try removing any extra devices from your computer.. Boot with only CPU, memory, hard disk and video card. See if that works.
