hi all,
windows or dos wont let me write to a floppy. i dont understand it just says "the disc is write-protected" and it wont copy to it. the disc isnt write protected, with the tabd on the floppy in the right position, i can put it in my other comp and it works. anyone no how i can fix it.
it reads and boots my ME floppy but cant write to any disc.

Maybe a faulty floppy cable or drive both of which are very cheap to replace.

Have you checked in device manager for problems?

Can you try your floppy drive in another system?

Regards Howard :)

You know that little switch thingy on a Floppy Disk, make suer thats not set to protected, i know some pretty dumb ppl that had that problem. :grinthumb

cant fix it

i got a brand new fdd, $10 bux including the data and power cable, but still no good. i cheked the new fdd in my other comp it works fine but not in the computer i need it in. i looked in the bios and the settings look good to me but ill have another look.

I suggest that you remove the floppy drive from your machine and put it in the bin. Man, they were so lame. I am glad they are going finally now, it seems. You can boot from CDs and you can use USB keys for portable storage. I hate floppies, they ALWAYS go bad when you least need them to.
