hi - using xp
perfectly new floppies stop working after they went through my floppy drive i.e just after wrting and erasing stuff for 10 minutes. floppies wouldn't work even in other systems with diff os. hence the floppies defenitely go bad.
after a bit of searching i decide to format a corrupted disk in ms-dos promt.
this is what i got :

>>>>

The type of the file system is RAW.
The new file system is FAT.
Verifying 1.44M
Initializing the File Allocation Table (FAT)...
Volume label (11 characters, ENTER for none)?
Format complete.

1,457,664 bytes total disk space.
72,192 bytes in bad sectors.
1,385,472 bytes available on disk.

512 bytes in each allocation unit.
2,706 allocation units available on disk.

12 bits in each FAT entry.

Volume Serial Number is 002E-3081
<<<<<<<

the disk began to work after this format(with still a few problems) , thought it took atleast 10 minutes for the format to complete. it seems to me that the floppy drive for some reason is changing the file system to 'raw' of every floppy .
also while trying to make a boot diskette i get :

>>>
disk erroron track 65, head 1
error in reading
<<<

Can anyone help me with pinpointing the problem?

Thanks

You have a floppy drive that ruins floppies. Nothing unusual about it. Throw it away and get a new one.

OH ok
that shld be enough . btw i forgot to mention my floppy drive is
er hmmmmm
8 years old!!

btw am not able to add smiles(using opera)

I am using Opera and I can add smilies just fine.
BTW smilies also work if you just type them in, not just when you click the smilie buttons :) The buttons add smilies to the end of your text.

Keep in mind that XP treats floppies differently than prior OS's ...i found this out the hard way.

patio.

well then u cld probably guide , so that i don't find it the hard way.
exactly how does it treat things differently
thx
