Format harddrive on network?

Hi
I have my husbands and my pcs networked. And have DSL. Now what I would like to do is format my hard drive. (on my pc)
I know how to format but I'm not sure if I need to disconnect the network before I do this. And how will this affect the DSL?

Make a note of your network settings, and which parts of your harddisk are 'shared' for access by the other PC.
You just unplug the network cable on the rear of your PC.
Then format/reinstall, put the network cable back in and run the network setup wizard or do it manually.
