Free antivirus and spyware - would this be ok?

Hi,

want one that is easy to setup and doesn't need a lot of maintenance.

If I install AVG free antivirus, and AVG firewall, and also install adaware SE Personal and Spyware blaster to do the occasional scan, will that be a fairly secure setup?

Just had my Norton subscription expire and have been led to believe that a free setup would be just as good/better.

Yes to AVG Antivirus and a free firewall too.
But no to the ad-aware and spyware tools. (download these tools when you need them, uninstall when you don't)

Thanks for the post kimland. I'll download both AVG products then.

Why not get the other ones though - are they just unnecessary if you've already got AVG?

They are unnecessary if you do not have spyware
Or a bit clearer: only install them, when you believe you have spyware/adware

Put it this way, I don't have them installed, and my system runs perfectly.
If I feel that something isn't right, that's when they're installed (and removed directly after repairing any faults.
