Fresh install XP over existing dual boot config

Have dual boot running XP Pro on both ... now upgrading machines ... i want to do a fresh install of XP Pro to overwrite the existing dual boot, when i try to delete the partition it gives me an error saying it cannot delete due to setup files on the partition, ... any way around this to delete the partition and install a fresh copy of XP?? someone please help i am at wits end!!!!!
