geforce 6800gt

i just purchased a 6800gt for my 1 year old comp,(athlon +2600, 512 ram,) and when i put the new video card in and fire up the comp, i get black screen and a loud beep.
i more than meet all the requirements for the card , including 450v power supply.im really lost and my semi-uber computer skills cant get me out of this one.

What video did you have prior to the 6800?

custom made computer
80gig hard drive
1 gig ram
old card was ge force 4
new card is xfx geforce 6800gt agp
windows xp

Do you have a connection going from your power supply directly to the graphics card? If you don't, then that is your problem.

lol thx, i didnt realize these new video cards needed there own power cord.works fine now. thanks so much socrates.
