Generic hcf data fax modem issues

my modems been running well until i played with the settings...now it start downloading at about 6k the slowly decreases to around 3k.
When i play an online game it runs fine then after a minute or 2 i get a sudden hit of lag and then its fine then i get lagg then its fine?
Ive also followed your guide on the site with no avail either.
Does anyone know how i could solve this prob?
ps im running xp and dont know the manufacturer sorry the device manager just shows it as a generic 56k hcf data fax modem.

Thanx for that....it didnt help much because i didnt really know the correct values i think....but i did download webroots accerate2k3 and now my internet seems back to normal so im not sure what its done......

On dslreports website you can run an online test of your internet connection. They then tell you what you could change, why and how. They have an extensive FAQ as well.
Give it a go.
