Getting IDE To Work As Backup

I'm having a little issue with setting up my new SATA hard drive. Originally I was using an IDE drive as my primary, and it has loads of information on it that I can not afford to lose. I have installed my Maxtor SATA drive this morning and everything work fine. The only problem I am having is that I would like to use my IDE as a backup and still be able to access the information on it through my new drive. I went into the device manager and all that good stuff, and my computer is not recognizing the IDE as still being connected which it is.

So I guess my question is how do I get my IDE to show up as an accessible separate/backup drive on my new SATA/My Computer?

Any help with this would be appreciated! Thanks!

Sorry I'm gonna sound really dumb, but how to I access the drive channels in BIOS? BIOS and installing hard drives is the one thing my brother didn't show me much about.

I went into my BIOS and didn't see anything pertaining to drive channels.

Sorry.

Best to get a technician then ... or get an external USB enclosure. Most people use backup drives thru the USB ports these days.
