Grey Screen help

I have a Dell Inspiron 5150.

Express Svc Code - 5993658001

I'm stuck on the infamous 'Grey Screen' with a system no. last 4 of -A95B. This laptop was given to me by someone dear that did not have a clue where to start (as if I do). I sure hope you can help me as you have some of the others. Thanks.

When did the grey screen come on, and what operating system is it running?

This system does not have a HD, therefore the "grey screen" comes up during the initiation after the dell screen.
