Hacktool.Rootkit detected by Norton

  1. Alright, here's the deal. I got an AIM message from a friend that had a link, and I clicked the link. Now apparently that person had a virus that spreads by IMing people on the buddy list this link, and when you click the link it gives you the virus. So, Norton Antivirus detects Hacktool.Rootkit on C:\Windows\system32\msdirectx.sys. I go to find that file in that folder (Hidden files unhidden) and it isnt even there. I dont know if this is the viruses way of hiding itself or if I lost a vital system file or what, but its just not there. Nothing I download can find this virus, and I havent had any symptoms since then, so it might not even exist anymore, I have no idea. If anyone has advice for me, I'd love to here it. Thanks for your time.

Get rid of Norton, and you should not see any more warnings.
Get e.g. AVG and Sygate (both FREE!) instead.
