i received the message that my hal.dll file was missing or corrupt... so i decided to use my windows disc to replace the file through the recovery counsole. I booted through the disc... but when i attempted to use the console i got the message "setup did not find any hard disc drives installed in your computer
make sure any hard disk drives are powered on and properly connect to your computer..."
setup can not continue
my computer is in raid.. and is not a dell like those mentioned in other cases

i would really appreciate any advice... i looked around and in most cases only one of these two issues was covered.

thank you very much!

Please download a bootable dos disk which can scan the surface of your hard disk. You might be struck by hard disk failure. HAL is the hardware abstraction layer. You shouldnt mess with that. Also, you cant just set a hal back from the install CD, if you installed sp X, make sure you restore the hal from this SP x. Or restore hal.dll from the servicepackfiles directory in the c:\windows directory using recovery console.
