My laptop can not boot from hard disk any more. The computer has a windows xp. The computer can be booted with a boot disk. It writes a ramdrive in the hard disk. However, there is an error message of no valid FAT or FAT32 once the boot process is completed. It says that it may be a virus problem. Any suggestions?

what disk are you using to boot the computer?? It may be that the hard drive is formatted as NTFS and the boot disk is too old to recognize this. If you are using an up to date disk then you may well find the drive is damaged or has a virus. How old is the laptop?? Warranty's??

do you get a boot start screen can you hit the F8 key
try to get to boot menu try to boot from last known good config
follow instructions bottom of screen
if you got the xp disc all else fails use it to repair
