HDD Failure

My hard drive had electrical problem and had to replace the board, I am trying to copy the data from the HDD to another drive or to a CD but my winXP still does not see the drive although DOS sees it when I start the computer! can anyone help with what to do next and what utility programs to use to repair it? I am trying not to send the drive to a computer repair shop!

Try going into Disk Managment to see if the drive shows up there and needs to have a drive letter assigned to it. Refer to this article.
