HDD Failure

I have a Dell D800 with a 40gig Seagate drive that failed yesterday. Bought a 60gig Seagate drive today and installed but can't get it to boot. Using floppy boot disk and get to the last disk when I get a critical error message. I'm sure Dell has put some proprietary protection in the system to make it hard to go elsewhere for parts. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome ; Yea Proprietary!
Are you using Dell setup disks or Windows? And did you confirm at Dell if that brand and model is acceptable .I always check the upgrade offerings at Dell site.
You are looking for a small partition on the HDD . It is where they put the system "Setup Program" the program that looks like a Bios setup screens. They can be loaded with a floppy disk . But you are going to have to look for the file. Try Dell forum's / Support etc.
