Heat problem?...

Hi, guys

This is my very first post (and thread :D) in TechSpot - so be nice!
Anyway, sorry if this question was already answered somewhere in the forum - as it's a really common issue, I guess, and there must be hundreds like me around here -, but I'm having a problem with my PC: either if I''m just browsing the Internet or doing something in Photoshop, etc., it te PC just 'faints' -- it shuts off for no apparent reason, then reboots!

I've been searching around and thought it might be a CPU cooling problem, but I've opened the case, removed the fan, cleaned it up a little bit and stuff but the problem remains - every now and then, it dies on me!
What do you guys think it is? Cooling issues, power supply... OS, motherboard failing? I'd really appreciate some hints on this.

Oh, and my PC is an crappy old AMD Athlon XP 1300+, with 256Mb RAM (it sucks, I know), Windows XP Pro SP2 and a 60GB HD...

Help, please!!!

Cheers

if u could get another 256Mb it would help u're speed imencely.

not saying it would help the freezing problem though.

do you have any capacitors leaking?
Did you check your CMOS battery?
did you check your minidump files?

although I do not know if it would reboot like this.

Hello and welcome to Techspot.

Go and read this thread HERE and see if it helps you to identify the culprit.

If it doesn`t, attach 5 or 6 of your latest minidumps here.

Regards Howard :wave;
