help!!!! MUP.SYS on safe mode

  1. I am about to reboot my hard drive,but i dont want to because my pc was working fine this morning, the problem i am getting is; i try and start the pc with safe mode, but the command prompt hangs at MUP.sys i have tried cleaning out my entire computer, removing dust etc, but this hasnt fixed the problem :( i dont want to reformat my hard drive because i have lots of downloads on it and also my course work is on it, my pc is the following:

    tiny xp 3.02 ghz
    2 hard drives, 1 master and 1 slave
    1 gb of RAM
    ATI radeon x300/x700 256 gb

    PLEASE HELP!!! as i really don't want to reboot the whole pc if the problem can be fixed quite easily

    how long have you left the pc when going into safe mode? usually when going into safe mode the screen stops on the last file that it has to load

    p.d. by reboot do you mean format :)

    yeh i have tried lots of solutions to this problem, i dont want to format my hard drive again! i have tried everything in my power to fix this fault but nothing, i dont have a xp disc, i do have reformatting software. I dont want to format incase this doesn't fix the problem
