HELP! Win XP won't boot from my CDROM

Hi all,

I have my neices computer and it is in a login/log out loop in Win XP. I've found on the internet a fix for that I hope and did it to fix the loop but it still does it.
I've tried to change the BIOS by disabling the boot seq from the HDD and just using the CDROM boot but it doesn't work.
I'm trying to reinstall the XP by using the disk, but the computer will not read from the CDROM. Well it sort of reads from it. It tells me to hit any key to boot from the disk but it won't allow me to type any keys.

I also cannot press F8 to start in Safemode.

Any suggestions?
I am by no means a computer experts so laymans terms please.

Are you using a USB keyboard?

Borrow a PS2 one if you are.

Excellent! thank you . that worked. Now my only problem is that When I log into Windows I get the desktop for a second then it logs me out again.
