Hi all,
I've been having some strange problems with recurring ad/spyware. I followed the two stickies about what to do before posting my HJT file, so now, here it is. Any help is greatly appreciated.

My system:
Chinese XP Home SP2
Pentium D, 2G RAM
AVG Anti-virus, Spybot, Ad-Aware

Yup, you did a pretty good job there :) I'm guessing you decided to uninstall msn messenger? If so, good idea. So:

Boot into safe mode. See how HERE. http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/tutorial61.html

Turn off system restore.(XP/ME only) See how HERE. http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/tutorial56.html

In Windows Explorer, turn on "Show all files and folders, including hidden and system". See how HERE. http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/tutorial62.html

Run a full system scan and delete whatever it finds. No antivirus programme can delete anything in a restore point. Turning off system restore will delete all your restore points and any infections that are in them.

Run HJT with no other programmes open. Have HJT fix the following, by placing a tick in the little box next to(if there).

O2 - BHO: SpoofBHO Class - {07A78AEA-4A54-4967-9A60-4B68592D30C7} - C:\WINDOWS\se_spoof.dll
O9 - Extra button: Messenger - {FB5F1910-F110-11d2-BB9E-00C04F795683} - C:\Program Files\Messenger\msmsgs.exe (file missing)
O9 - Extra 'Tools' menuitem: Windows Messenger - {FB5F1910-F110-11d2-BB9E-00C04F795683} - C:\Program Files\Messenger\msmsgs.exe (file missing)
O18 - Protocol: msnim - {828030A1-22C1-4009-854F-8E305202313F} - "C:\PROGRA~1\MSNMES~1\msgrapp.dll" (file missing)

Reboot into normal mode and turn system restore back on.

Post a fresh HJT log.

You have a trojan infection.

Download the Pocket killbox programme from HERE. Extract it, but don`t run it yet.

You might want to copy and paste these instructions into a notepad file. Then you can have the file open in safe mode, so you can follow the instructions easier.

Boot into safe mode. See how HERE. http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/tutorial61.html

Turn off system restore.(XP/ME only) See how HERE. http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/tutorial56.html

In Windows Explorer, turn on "Show all files and folders, including hidden and system". See how HERE. http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/tutorial62.html

Open your task manager, by holding down the ctrl and alt keys and pressing the delete key.

Click on the processes tab and end process for(if there).

conime.exe

Close task manager.

Run HJT with no other programmes open(except notepad).Click the scan button. Have HJT fix the following, by placing a tick in the little box next to(if there).

O2 - BHO: SpoofBHO Class - {07A78AEA-4A54-4967-9A60-4B68592D30C7} - C:\WINDOWS\se_spoof.dll

Click on the fix checked button.

Close HJT.

Run the killbox.exe file. When it loads type the full path to the file you would like to delete in the field and check the delete file on reboot button. press the Delete File button (looks like a red circle with a white X). It will prompt you to reboot, select no until you have finished inputting the files you want to delete, only then allow it to reboot and hopefully your files will now be deleted.

These are the file paths you should enter into killbox.

C:\WINDOWS\se_spoof.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\conime.exe

Once your system has rebooted, turn system re3store back on and post a fresh HJT log.

Regards Howard :)

Thank you Howard, and thanks to PG as well.

I followed your instructions successfully. The only exception is that Killbot was unable to find C:\WINDOWS\se_spoof.dll.

Here's my new HJT log.

Many, many thanks!

Well done, your HJT log is clean.

Don`t worry about Killbox not finding the C:\WINDOWS\se_spoof.dll. file, it`s probably already gone.

Regards Howard :)
