Hijackthis Log - My computer is slower than before, please help

Hi All,

I just mistakenly posted this log in the wrong forum, this one seems to be the right place though. My comp is running slower than before and I don't know why. I am currently trialling a new antivirus program from pandasoftware, is that slowing me down? I have no idea and would appreciate any help or advice.

Nothing wrong with your HJT-log.
That Panda seems to invoke an awful lot of processes and services.
I would immediately point the finger at Panda as the culprit.

What are your system specs? (see 'User Profile', top left of this screen)

Oh RBS, you got your post in before me. I did notice Panda had a lot of entries. But as for the program itself, it's great.

The HJT log may be clean from junk, but there are a lot of programs and startups he could remove that might help speed it up.

James, what are your system specs? RAM, CPU, HDD etc...

Thanks For the help so far. I like PandaAntivirus too, but if it is causing the slowdown I'll ditch it for something else if that will help. These 3 programs are unnecessary. My removing them from the startup-routine, you will save some (minimal) processing power.
Microsoft Office\Office10\OSA.EXE can also be suppressed, it is a waste of time, so let's remove it as well.

Boot in Safe Mode, then run Hijackthis. Place a tick-mark in the little square before:

UNLESS thes NameServers are from your ISP, FIX them as well.

Now click on the Fix Checked button in HJT.

You don't need to delete any of the above files.

Delete all files and directories from: C:\Documents and Settings\[username]\Local Settings\Temp
Repeat this for ALL [usernames].

Reboot in normal mode, and see if you spot any difference.

Next, do some cleaning up of your harddisk, run checkdisk or its equivalent first, then run a defragmenter.
Clean up your Temporary Internet Files and cookies junk.
Stop using IE except for Windoze updates.
Go to www.getfirefox.com and install Firefox.

Run a scan in HijackThis. Check each of the following and hit 'Fix checked' (after checking them) if they still exist (make sure not to miss any):

For Panda, you may uninstall it and use a free antivirus program that I usually recommend -> Grisoft AVG

Restart and see if anything improved. If not, do this:

Please empty any Quarantine folder in your antivirus program and purge all recovery items in the Spybot program (if you use it) before running this tool.

Download the Mwav virus checker at http://www.mwti.net/antivirus/mwav.asp (Use Link 3)

1. Save it to a folder.
2. Reboot into Safe Mode.
3. Double click the Mwav.exe file. This is a stand alone tool and NOT just a virus checker......so it won't install anything.
4. Select all local drives, scan all files, and press SCAN. When it is completed, anything found will be displayed in the lower pane.
5. In the Virus Log Information Pane......
Left click and highlight all the information in the Lower pane --- Use &CTRL C &on your keyboard to copy everything found in the lower pane and save it to a notepad file
*Note* If prompted that a virus was found and you need to purchase the product to remove the malware, just close out the prompt and let it continue scanning. We are not going to use this to remove anything...but to ID the bad files.

Once you copy that to a Notepad file...highlight the text and copy it here.

You might benefit from a RAM upgrade.

Right click on the task bar and choose "Task Manager". Or click ctrl-shift-esc.
Go to the Performance tab. List the values under the Commit Charge, Physical Memory, and Kernel Memory areas.
Do a fresh reboot before listing those. This way it will be all your startups and things running from the beginning.

Note that you have the "firewall" version of Panda. Which does add some more processes and services then just the standard Antivirus by itself.
