I was hoping someone would get the time to look at the attached log file and be able to offer me some advise.......

Hardly anything wrong, mostly cosmetics.

put HijackThis in e.g C:\Program Files\HJT and NOT on the Desktop!.
Run HJT and have it fix:
R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Search_URL = about:blank
R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant = about:blank
R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,CustomizeSearch =
