Hook up a guitar to computer, using Cubase as program. [need help, not a guide]

I have just got Cubase SX, a music producing and editing program;

I want to hook my guitar up to the computer using an adapter.

When I connect it in my Sound Effect Manager screen comes up, and it recognises that it's a microphone, but when I record in Cubase, no sound comes out. No sound is recorded on Sound Recorder either.

Anyone done this before? Suggestions please.

:)

I`d think the easiest way, would be to plug your guitar into your guitar amp, then plug the guitar amp`s line out into the soundcard`s line in.

You`ll get much better quality, doing it that way.

The problem with plugging your guitar into the mic input, is you really need a preamp to boost the signal.

Regards Howard :)

What Howard said and also make sure you check that the microphone or the line-in is not set to mute in the sound card driver applet. Often either one or both are muted on default settings. This would be in the Sound Mixer console for example in Creative Soundblaster.
