How can I upscale DVD's on a PC to watch on a HDTV?

Hi, my bro has a 7600GS and a Sony Bravia that does 1080p HD output. I've been skimming on the Nvidia website and it says the 7series is capable of 1080p itself, but I think this is only in regard to playing dvd's that are HD quality themselves. Does anyone know if its possible to upscale through the PC and then watch it on the TV via connecting it to the PC, and if it is, what software is there to use (DivX HD or something?)
