How could I configure my computer so that I can have the best performance?

I am an Architecture student and i have a very capable computer, however, i think it could run better. It is brand new and here are the specs...

Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 3.40GHz 3.39GHz, 2.00 GB of RAM, 256 Video card

Does anyone know how i can configure this computer so that it slices through Photoshop, AutoCad, and FormZ like programs like butter? (memory usage, virtual memory, what ever)

I don't think you need any "shortcuts" because your computer is really fast.

What? Do you have to wait like...2 seconds to load Photoshop?
