How long should a router stay on ?

hey.. i was wondering how long it is safe to leave your router on.. is it ok if i leave it on for weeks as my other pc is connected to it? or does the router require some rest periods?

For most computing equipment, it is OK to keep it running 24/7.

My router and switches are on all day every day and they're fine. Thats what they are designed for

Although I think NTL (my ISP) turn their's off everyday at 4pm as my web starts to crawl at that time.

been running for 10 months with few reboots as I tweak away all day

ok thanks for the info.. and how long will the router last before it spoils if i turn it on daily? a year or two? i'm using linksys btw..

Usually you can count on consumer electronics to run three years - after that some components may start to fail. Then again, the thing may work flawlessly for 20 years
