The company I work for has an interesting rig for the on-hold system.

We have a cd player that loops like 5 or 10 cds.
From there, one audio cable (red) goes from the cd player (Sony CDP-CX335) directly into the phone line. (it is a custom rig)

But we are getting a few complaints that the volume is too lound, so we want to setup a volume control...without a receiver.

My IT manager says he knows it is possible and he left it to me to figure out how.

I am not too knowledgable with audio cabling and such, so basic terminology would be appreciated.

Thanks

does this cd player have a headphones jack? if so, instead of using the rca connectors on the back (which aren't vol. controlled), connect your setup using the headphone jack instead. you should be able to pick up an adapter at any hardware/electronics store and cheaply. then you can call the company, get put on hold, and calibrate the volume yourself (best to start with it all the way down...)
