Hp pavilion notebook - bios password - Need Help

I am trying to fix a problem for a friend - he's got his hp pavilion n-519* password protected at the boot, now all he gets is a logo screen showing HP and a prompt to enter a password he no longer knows!

Can anybody help really would appeciate it.

if he has his laptop password protected at boot then he would have to enter the passord each time he booted the laptop. so how could he forget the passowrd?
