I have read many forum posts trying to decipher what to do about my freezing issues. However, I am not able to figure it all out. I did, however, decide I should get "Highjack This", scan, and save the log. So, here it is.
Someone...please help me! What do I do now????

Welcome to TechSpot

Download and install the following 3 programs, each in their own permanent directory:
Spybot S&D http://www.safer-networking.org , let it "immunise" your PC, takes only a few seconds.
Adaware Personal SE http://www.lavasoftusa.com
CWshredder http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/downloads.html

Before running any of the above, always make sure you have the latest program-versions,
and do an online-update in Adaware and Spybot for the latest definitions.

Reboot in Safe Mode (press F8 a few times upon booting).
As you have similar to "BeginToSearch" etc. run CWShredder first and let it fix whatever it can.
Then run Adaware, followed by Spybot. Let them each fix whatever they can.
Then reboot again in Safe Mode.

Now run Hijackthis with NO other programs open, but DON'T let it do anything yet.
Make sure you have read TomCoyote's instructions on HJT !! See at: http://www.tomcoyote.org/hjt/
Copy and paste the HJT report here in this thread. We can then help you further.

Welcome to Techspot!
I take it you are having freeze problems when you are online if they happen during other activity tell us .
In the mean time ,I would start by stopping some of the services you have running that you really don't need .
Turn off Messenger and turn it on only when you are using it.
Confirm at Compaq as to whether that 'easy access service 'can be shut down and how to do it.Those automatic support applications draw a lot of bandwidth.
There are a couple of other items in your Hijack report ,but I will investigate .
Also have you run the other items Real... suggested to you ? What were the results?

not yet...

I haven't had the chance to do anything yet. I just read this and printed it off. I will do what I can this evening and post again. I definitely appreciate the help!!!!! :)

here's my second log...

OK, did the spybot and adaware and here is the hijack log now...
let me know if I need to do anything else.

Computer freezing isn't always software problem, it could be hardware or something else (literally freezing, heh heh).

A bit more information about your computer and these freezings would help.

Your PC looks clean now, so for the moment we can ignore virus- and worm-problems.

As Mict said, give us the dirty on your PC (fill in the stuff under "my.TS.forum" top left.

Can you explain exactly when and what you(or machine) are doing when the freeze happens.
Pay close attention and note any error messages, event msg.

Still freezing....

Well, nothing is the same each time it freezes. Sometimes I am in the middle of opening programs or a window, other times It'll freeze while inactive, and other times during screensaver. Doesn't seem to matter what program I am trying to run, etc. It does not respond to ctrl+alt+del, either when it acts this way. I'm not sure how long I'll be able to actually do anything before it freezes. I'm lucky to be posting...thought I had better check this forum again to see if I had missed something. Just tonight I have had to unplug the darned thing at least 8 times to restart it. A few of those times, when turning it back on, it starts, gets past the Compaq screen, then goes to the Windows XP screen and then instantly shuts down as a brief flash of a blue screen appears and then it reboots. It'll do this over and over until I unplug it, yet again. A few other times it went straight to the DOS screen where it gives the option to start in safe mode, etc. Tonight it froze in IE twice and then in simple programs the rest of the times. I ran Spybot again and it found DOS exploit...or something like that, which I promptly got rid of. Something about ahole in IE that is letting "others" in....scary!

Anyways, this is reeking havoc with my life. I am in a flexnet class through UOP and my online posts are my class participation and then of course there is the fact that I have assignments due as well. Sooooo frustrating!

Anything anyone can think of that'll help?????

I notice you have a Compaq Laptop. Give us the exact model please, so we can narrow down the possibilities.
I'd say you should try to open the laptop at the bottom somewhere, and reseat the memory (or get someone to help you with it).
Could it be that the ventilation openings are clogged up?
Could you have a wobbly power-connector?
Does the freezing happen when on battery or when on mains?
When on mains, do you take the battery out?

Reset memory?

Not sure I know how to reset the memory. Can't say I ever looked to see how.

I have a Presario 2700T.

It freezes on the main. I don't usually run it off the battery. I rarely take it anywhere. To be completely honest, most of the constant and consecutive freezing instances started happening more frequently after the fact that I unpluged it and everything from it and took it with me to a class meeting. When I got back and plugged it back in, it immediately did the repeated rebooting on the windows screen.

I always have the battery in even when running from AC. I have to remove the battery to shut it down when it freezes up.

It does get really hot, too hot to touch sometimes, so I have a small box fan next to it that I turn on intermittenly to keep it cool. I suppose the vents could be clogged. Never thought of that, and I'm not sure where to even look.

As far as the power-connector, I'm not sure I understand what you mean to be wobbly. It is plugged into a surge stick and is tight, not loose. I wouldn't know what else to check for.

Hope that helps some. By the way, thanks for replying and helpng me out...I do really appreciate this!!

Don't you have some nice PC-guru in your class or your neighbourhood?

Your PC is freezing because it is overheating! (contradictio in terminis, for anyone who knows Latin)
Try running it off the mains with the battery out. Place it on a flat surface, so air can circulate.

Found this:
Your presario cpu fan cooler is attached to the system board through a soldered nut. As the system is used over time, one or two of the nuts loosen up and this creates a gap between the cpu subtrate layer and the heatsink. This prevents the cpu from proper cooling and because the cpu and the system board where designed to prevent damage to either the cpu or the system board, the computer automatically shuts down when it senses the cpu is overheating.

Yes, I do, and he told me to check the forums to make sure that others agreed with him. However, he did not know what to do about the overheating situation. I, too, found the same forum post that you entered right after my last post to this forum, and viola, I downloaded the manual and am going to check out this wonderful heatsink-nut thing.

I will also try running it without the battery.

You have been awesome! Thanks again!

I used to have a fan behind my laptop PC to keep it cool. I had also placed it on supports front and back to raise it off the table about an inch to let the air circulate under it.

Then I had a bright idea and on searching Google found that there are laptop coolers available on the market. I bought mine from:

http://store.yahoo.com/buyextras/evnoco.html

There are others available.

It plugs into the laptop PC's USB port for its power supply and you place the laptop PC on top of it - its fans cool the laptop PC from underneath.

HTH

PS: A frown is an Aussie smile - an upside down smile. :D
