Hello,

I noticed that my system is infected with this virus. I did a search for folders 'bak' and find quite a few exe's being moved into a folder where as my virus scan (McCafee) shows as deleted. I have removed some exe's using "add remove programs" such as google talk, yahoo etc..but i notice some important exe's being moved and I cannot remove them since I need it...please help. How can I restore the exe from the 'bak' folder?

Hello and welcome to Techspot.

Very Important: Before deciding whether you should clean or reformat your system, go and read this thread HERE and decide what it is you want to do.

If after reading the above, you wish to clean your system, do the following.

Please download FindAWF to your Desktop.
Double-click FindAWF.exe to start the tool.
Select "option #1 - Scan for bak folders" by typing 1 and press Enter
When the tool has completed, a report will open up in notepad. Please post the results of the awf.txt as an attachment.

Also, please post a HJT log as per these instructions.

Regards Howard

I`ll wait till I have the awf.txt before I help you. You should really have waited until you had both the requested log files before posting. You could then have attached them both into the same post. ;)

Right click on this link DelO15Domains.inf and choose Save As. Save it to your desktop. Right click on that file and choose Install. It will run immediately (you won't be able to see anything happen). You may delete it afterwards. NOTE: This script will delete any sites you may have added to the Trusted Sites. So if you want them back, you have to add them back to the Trusted Sites again.

Double-click FindAWF.exe to start the tool. Then, do the following
Select "option #2 - Restore files from bak folders" by typing 2 and press Enter .
A text file will open up. Please copy/paste the following text from the quote box (all except the word QUOTE) into the text file.
"C:\Program Files\AIM\bak\aim.exe"
"C:\Program Files\eFax Messenger 4.1\bak\J2GDllCmd.exe"
"C:\Program Files\iTunes\bak\iTunesHelper.exe"
"C:\Program Files\QuickTime\bak\qttask.exe"
"C:\WINDOWS\system32\bak\ctfmon.exe"

"C:\Program Files\ThinkPad\Utilities\bak\BMMLREF.EXE"
"C:\Program Files\ThinkPad\Utilities\bak\EzEjMnAp.Exe"
"C:\Program Files\ThinkPad\Utilities\bak\TpKmapAp.exe"
"C:\Program Files\VERITAS Software\Update Manager\bak\sgtray.exe"
"C:\Program Files\Viewpoint\Viewpoint Manager\bak\ViewMgr.exe"
"C:\WINDOWS\system32\dla\bak\tfswctrl.exe"
"C:\Program Files\Common Files\Network Associates\TalkBack\bak\TBMon.exe"
"C:\Program Files\Common Files\Real\Update_OB\bak\realsched.exe"
"C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.5.0_03\bin\bak\jusched.exe"
"C:\Program Files\ThinkPad\PkgMgr\HOTKEY\bak\TPHKMGR.exe"

Close the .txt file and click Yes to save the changes.
When the tool has completed, a report will open up in notepad. Please post the results of the awf.txt in your next reply as an attachment.

Logs for Option2 FindAWF

Howard,
Here are the logs. Please help me with next steps?

I understand that the file which was moved by this trojan has been recovered but how do I make sure my system is clean from the trojan? Is that the next step? I will be wait for your instructions. Thanks once again!

The reason for my impatience is that My virus scan just ran once again and found another instance in a different directory. I suppose, I need to do option 1, 2, and 3 again.
Thanks,
bj

Your awf.txt is now clean.

To finish, run Option 4.

Double-click the FindAWF icon once again.
Use the following option: Press 4 then Enter to reset domain zones

When the program returns to the main menu, use the following option:
Press E then Enter to EXIT

However, your HJT log is not clean. Please do the following.

Go and read the Viruses/Spyware/Malware, preliminary removal instructions. Follow all the instructions exactly.

Post fresh HJT, AVG Antispyware and Combofix logs as attachments into this thread, only after doing the above.

Also, let me know the results of the Panda Antirootkit scan.
