I think I'm in trouble......

Hello,

I'm not a Windows person at all. I recently started up my pc and most of my icons and quick launch icons have changed to a generic state and none, and I mean none of my applications will open anymore not even basic control panel stuff. I tried to do a system restore in safe mode. Didn't work. I even went so far as to try and re-format the drive. Refused to format. I would wipe the bastard clean, but I can't find my xp cd. Is it worth the headache of trying to figure out or should I just go buy another copy?

Any help is tremendously appreciated.

If you have the cd key you could just borrow someones XP cd and format and reinstall Window's. Sounds like your computer is infected with some nasty Virus/Spyware. Read this if you want to give it a shot before a reinstall: https://www.techspot.com/vb/topic50981.html
