Ide cable problems

When i have my drives hooked up to just the power supply they will come on.
When i hook the ide cable up to the drives they will not power up or anything.
This is a new build....i tried autodetecting in cmos but nothing...
AMD athlon 64 3500+
Epox nvidia nforce 4 sli motherboard..
512mb ddr ram 400 watt power supply...
new video card will not detect but old video card will.

what brand PSU? and how many Amps does it deliver on the +12V rail?

not sure what brand it came with a case.....15A on +12v

Your problem is probably your PSU. PSU's that come with the case are usualy crap and are substandard units. And even if it were a quality PSU 15A is marginal for trying to run newer systems.
