in need of help for firewall use

ok i'm connected to the internet. (that part is for Shaw23 )... well i'm using Sygate Personal Firewall and i'm not quite sure how to use it properly. there are alot of sites that i cannot browse/login to when it is enabled. any idea on how to get it to work properly so that i can go to those sites that won't work?

or does anyone know of a good firewall that will not block sites?

Have you checked to see if your firewall says its blocking a particular site? If it is just change it to allow. I am not familiar with that Firewall (I use ZoneAlarm) so I am not sure where to check the settings.

blocking sites is typically a side-effect of a poorly configured firewall -- not a feature

tell me of your wiring and installed equipment; from your line (dial-up, modem)
thru all connected devices to finally your system(s). This will give some
insight as to the FW configuration needed.

I need to know the physical hardware installed. This impacts the file sharing setup.

here are some guidelines:
disallow fragmented packets
allow ping in/out bound
allow outbound to any ip ports 25,110,143 # these are email access
allow outbound to any ip ports 80,443 # these are browser ports

the file/print sharing I'll defer until you reply with the network info.

you look at the tag on each device to locate the vendor/model number.
also describe the connections between the devices, starting from the modem.
