I have sony vaio laptop, when i tried to connect to the internet using WLAN its giving a blue screen with an error message: "hardware malfunction, contact vendor" and i need to reboot my laptop. But if i disable WLAN and connect through my LAN my laptop is working alright. So i got an external wireless adopter and tried to connect to the internet after disabling WLAN but when i try to do it my new wireless network adopter got disabled automatically. Is it a hardware conflict or some other issue. I am not able to figure it out whats with my wireless, could someone suggest me a solution for this. Always it will not be possible for me to connect to LAN and my laptop warranty got expired.

did your external adapter come with a Disk/CD?

when you go to start -> control panel -> device manager -> Network Adapter
does it show the name of the external adapter?

Sounds like the built-in wireless PCI adapter card needs to be replaced on that model. As it has failed. You need to go into the BIOS and diable the onboard NIC adapter. DELLs and IBMs used wireless pci adapter looked like memory but it was wrap in a white plastic cover.
