Is there a way to install win xp to a serial ata hard drive without a floppy? I guess the question is when it asks to install a 3rd party driver for the sata hard drive, can i bypass that to get it from a cd or usb etc?

You can't really bypass the floppy thing. Windows installer insists on a floppy and no other media is accepted. One could try a USB floppy drive.

You can slipstream the needed drivers to a custom XP CD too if you like. The process isn't that trivial though.
