  1. I am a newbie here, I hope I put this post in the right place, I have a Dell Dimension 3000 :( and I am trying to install a 2nd HD, the 2nd drive has no OS on it, it just for extra space and for back-up, I have had a friend install a 2nd drive on other computer so I kindof know what to do, but not really sure. Any help would be great, thanks

first check an see if your existing hard drive is using master or Cable Select. if master then set your 2nd drive as slave. once windows boots go to administrative tools\computer management\disk management ( assuming you are using XP) and there you can partition and format the drive.

add to the 2nd ide cable as a slave drive set jumpers to slave if there is a cdrom or dvdplayer/burner on the cable make sure they are set to master
on boot make sure you don't let the OS do a chkdsk
    may damage data

then it has allready been formated and doesnt need to be formatted again. just make sure you have the jumper set correctly.
