Internet Conn. Sharing Problem...Help as soon as possible!

Hi, i m trying to share internet connection between two PCs with same ethernet cards installed. I m using crossover cable to connect the two PCs but LAN doesnt activates on either PCs. Wat may be the problem? is there any problem with the crosover cable?
when i connect my ADSL modem to my main comp with the crossover cable.......LAN is activated in the adsl modem but internet doesnot connect. From this i think that cable might be ok and there is some other problem.
ANY SUGGESTIONS?

Did you make sure the Computer Browser service is running.?

no i didnt checked that. is it in services.msc. if yes then it was running if anyother thig then lemme check.......plz reply in more details
