internet programs not working (proper problem)

right, ive posted threads about this a few times yet no help. perhaps its too hard for you guys but il try you.

basically, my computer doesn't connect to any programs....

msn, remote assistance, updates

NOTHING except IE and limewire.

It gets error messages for 'no internet connection' etc.
I dont kno what the **** to do.... can anyone help ive had this for about a year now, and I kind of want msn and other programs to work..

and btw, dont say do a virus scan, coz my AV (mcafee) hasnt been updated since 06 lol. due to no internet connection

Could you download Hijackthis from here.

Then read this thread, which explains how to post your hijackthis log. Follow all instructions exactly.

why would you use limewire and msn if you have no internet connection?
just confusing.
explain and clear my doubt.

No internet connection. Have you contacted your ISP? (Internet Service Provider).

Are you using Router?
Or just the Modem connected to the PC?
Are you using DSL or Cable?

What happens when you do a ipconfig /all?
Do you get and error when you do ipconfig /all?
Can the PC see other PCs on your LAN?
When you type: arp -a do you see your IP and default-gateway IP address?
Have you ever tried to arp cace purge the network protocols cache?
Using this command mode: netsh interface ip delete arpcache
If the above doesn't work for you try uninstalling the NIC driver
Reboot the PC
Then reinstall the NIC driver.
