is geforce4 mx440 compatible on winxp sp2? cuz my monitor turns off when i log on after i install the chipsets, but my system does'nt crash

is it your monitor turns off everytime you log on to windows then it start again? (1sec turn-off). if so, it's because inappropriate driver or outdated driver.

it remains off when i log on to sp2,but when i log on to the xp pro(not sp2)it does'nt turn off, i forgot to say that it was ok when the chips arent installed yet

how do start in vga mode?

Press F8 a few times before the Windows splash screen so you get that boot menu, one of the options is VGA mode.

Also, if you have a CRT, try either dropping your refresh rate or resolution. Drivers sometimes reset those settings, and then your monitor "saves" itself by blanking the screen. And the initial login screen likely won't be high enough to mess you up.
