Spybot showed that I had Smitfraud-C.Toolbar888 yesterday and I started getting IE popups like crazy so I did a search and found you guys.

Norton popped up with "Infostealer" "Downloader xc23[1]" and "Trojan H (antzom[1]" and I noticed most of the popups were from Outerinfo. Some other alerts were winlogon.exe, !update.exe, Yazzle11620inAdmin.exe, win1A.tmp.exe, etc

I followed the 15 step instructions and so far so good:

AVG Anti-Rootkit Scan= No Rootkits
Ad-Aware Scan= CLEAN
AVG Antivirus Scan= CLEAN
Spybot= CLEAN

I attached all documents except VirtumundoBeGone v1.5 because 5 is the limit ;) I want to be thorough so sorry if I posted too many. I do business on this computer so I want to make sure I am clean.

Thanks a lot, you guys have a great site here and we appreciate all the help

Hello and welcome to Techspot.

Your system is far from clean.

Go to add remove programmes in your control panel and uninstall anything to do with(if there).

Viewpoint

Close control panel.

1. Please download The Avenger by Swandog46 from HERE. Save it to your Desktop and extract it.

2. Download the attached avengerscript.txt and save it to your desktop

Note: the above code was created specifically for this user. If you are not this user, do NOT follow these directions as they could damage the workings of your system.

3. Now, start The Avenger program by double clicking on its icon on your desktop.

Under "Script file to execute" choose "Load script from file".
Now click on the folder icon which will open a new window titled "open Script File"
navigate to the file you have just downloaded, click on it and press open
Now click on the Green Light to begin execution of the script
Answer "Yes" twice when prompted.

4. The Avenger will automatically do the following:

It will Restart your computer. ( In cases where the code to execute contains "Drivers to Unload", The Avenger will actually restart your system twice.)
On reboot, it will briefly open a black command window on your desktop, this is normal.
After the restart, it creates a log file that should open with the results of Avenger’s actions. This log file will be located at C:\avenger.txt
The Avenger will also have backed up all the files, etc., that you asked it to delete, and will have zipped them and moved the zip archives to C:\avenger\backup.zip.

5. Please attach the content of c:\avenger.txt into your reply, as well fresh HJT and Combofix logs.

Regards Howard

Thanks for the quick reply and help :)

I removed Viewpoint Media Player and then ran the other stuff. Not sure if you wanted me to post the Avenger.txt into my reply or just attach it, if you need me to paste it just let me know

You might want to copy and paste these instructions into a notepad file. Then you can have the file open in safe mode, so you can follow the instructions easier.

Boot into safe mode, under your normal user name(NOT THE ADMINISTRATOR ACCOUNT). See how HERE.

In Windows Explorer, turn on "Show all files and folders, including hidden and system". See how HERE.

Run HJT with no other programmes open. Click the scan button. Have HJT fix the following, by placing a tick in the little box next to(if there).

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {14420F23-DDA4-4377-9B61-45701F8B4187} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\ddayx.dll (file missing)

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {CC504239-F1D7-AB7C-DF0B-83ADDCCA7295} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\guhfb.dll (file missing)

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [AlcxMonitor] ALCXMNTR.EXE

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Reminder] "C:\Windows\Creator\Remind_XP.exe"

O20 - Winlogon Notify: winowl32 - winowl32.dll (file missing)

Click on the fix checked button.

Close HJT.

Locate and delete the following bold files and/or directories(if there).

C:\WINDOWS\?racle<Delete the entire folder.
C:\DOCUME~1\Owner\APPLIC~1\?ssembly<Delete the entire folder.
C:\windows\ALCXMNTR.EXE
C:\Program Files\Viewpoint<Delete the entire folder.

Reboot into normal mode and rehide your protected OS files.

2. Download the attached avengerscript.txt and save it to your desktop

Ok, I guess HIJ fully deleted ALCXMNTR.EXE and Viewpoint because I couldn't find the folders after I cleaned.

Here are the attachments

Your HJT log is clean.

Turn off system restore.(XP/ME only) See how HERE.

Now, turn system restore back on. This will have deleted all your old restore points and any nasties that are in them. It will also have created a new, clean restore point.

If you have any further virus/spyware problems, please post in this thread.

Thanks Howard!

I use Roboform for my passwords, do you think it's safe now to login to my PayPal, G-Mail, etc accounts? I'll definitely change all my passwords before I do though.

Also, where can I send a donation?

We don`t need a donation, as Techspot is paid for through advertising.

Changing your passwords seems like a good idea.

However, there is no guarantee that your data hasn`t already been stolen. It`d probably be a good idea to contact Paypal etc and tell them your system may have been compromised. There is also no guarantee that your system is safe to use for online banking/credit card use/Paypal etc. Did you read this link HERE in the 15 step instructions? If not, I suggest you do so.

I was thinking since you have to know and fill in my Roboform "Master Password" before you can even gain access to all my passwords the spyware wouldn't be able to access it, atleast that's what I was hoping lol. Once norton popped up I haven't typed in any passwords since.

Thanks again for the help

1 more thing, I had an external hard drive connected through USB when the virus popped up, is there any way the spyware/virus could've gone to the external hd too?

Malware can steal all passwords stored on your computer. It can also deliver a keylogger that records all your key strokes.

If you`re willing to take the risk, even if it`s only a small risk, that`s up to you. I`m just saying I can`t guarantee 100% that your personal data is safe.

The top and bottom of the situation is this.

If I used my computer for storing sensitive information, online banking or credit card use and it became infected with malware, I`d have no hesitation in reformatting and reinstalling from scratch. I`d also take steps to inform my bank etc of the situation.

We have a member who pm`d me a few weeks ago to say he had previously lost around $10,000 due to a malware infection stealing his passwords etc. I make no apology for pointing out the potential seriousness of using a computer for financial purposes, once it becomes clear it has been infected with malware.

Yea I'll definitely contact my bank to let them know, I'm covered fully if my cc is stolen and used so I'm not extremely worried really.

Have a nice day, and thanks again!

Umm, I just checked my Add/Remove Programs and I see "Outerinfo" 265MB

Go to add remove programmes in your control panel and uninstall anything to do with(if there).

Then, go and run this uninstaller. http://www.outerinfo.com/howto.html

Post a fresh HJT log when done.

Removed Outerinfo from add/remove programs list and it said "An error occurred while trying to remove Outerinfo. It may have already been uninstalled." so I just removed it from the list.

Ran that outerinfo uninstaller, AVG anti-spyware popped up, assumed I should ignore/allow and then ran it. Said the remaining files will be deleted on reboot. Attached is my new hjt log

EDIT: Ran Spybot today and "BlackCore" came up, I attached the new hjt log
