Having recently had a snaffoo with an ATI radeon card, I'm shopping for a new nVidia card, and am interested in the NVIDIA GeForce 7300 GT 256MB DDR2 AGP DVI (DabsValue). Anything higher priced is out of my range, but for the following specs, would this be an ok card for simple gaming (HL2, Uru, Unreal Tournament 2004)?

Gigabyte mobo GA-7VT600 1394
2600+ AMD Processor
512 MB RAM

Don't need to overclock or anything, just want to be able to play the games :)

Thanks for any tips

What screen resolution do you typically play at?

The 7300GT lineup are an entry level gaming card. For games like HL2, especially if you play at 1080x1024, you will have to turn down all the graphics settings in order to get good framerates but you WILL be able to play.

I'm not sure, it's been ages since I was able to play a game! I'd like to be able to play things comfortably and have a little play with the settings, I'd prefer not to play on minimal settings. If that's the case with 7300GT, are there any similar cards that you'd recommend?

In order from worst to best that are better than the 7300GT, 7600GS, X1600PRO, X1650PRO, X1650XT, 7600GT, 7900GS, X1950PRO

Get one of those, they range from 80-200$
7600GT is 110$ after rebate, so get one of those.

Yeah the 7600 is good or if you have the money get the X1950PRO so you can get high FR and still get good graphics with a good resolution

Hmmm, I can't go as high as the X1950PRO, but I could stretch to a 7600GS. Will that be a comfy game runner, then?

Yes it will be a lot better than the 7300GT. Try the 7900GS too if u can coz I've seen that BFG and eVGA are offering heavy rebates on it, which brings down it's price to around $150. It blows away the 7600GS and the 7600GT and is a superb card for that price range.
