Is Windows 11 coming? Leaks confirm it

Dual/triple/quad booting other OSes is a viable option of course. I do it myself. But you are being disingenuous implying this is an "XP machine" since you have to boot up newer OSes to play modern games, which proves his point.

It runs win32 software, Linux software as well as windows 10 malware, so whats your point?

Hell, it even boots to DOS

Lets see you do that with your shiny new spyware platform

Oh, that's right, YOU CAN'T!

Shall we call it a Linux machine?
A Hackintosh?
A Chromium Device?

No, I call it what it shines at, running the widest selection of usable software on the Planet

It's an XP machine that also does anything else I need it to do

Can your new PC boot to all these X86 operating systems, or are you settling for a gimped virtual machine?

Honestly I don't see any reason for MS to not continue the Windows 10 continually growing model. Where we get two big updates every year.

At some point I do see the move to a Azure AD based version for home use, but MS just barely has this working smoothly today in the business world. Or better yet a full move to Azure than will host your full windows install, but still allow to sync apps from your onedrive and execute apps on host hardware not not cloud. Kinda like a Hybrid Cloud/local VM.

I'd love to be able to have a single windows install and be able to move between devices and have apps like adobe still treat the install as a single license.

You really think that Adobe is that kind? 4 devices, four licenses.mate. Refer to Oracle when threading came along.

I think that Nadella wants to make 'his' OS.He's been in the leadership role now for how long? So, yes, I think that there will be a new branding exercise. The specifics are harder to visualize. I would hope that this is not another '365' attempt. I would hope that it will continue the 'perpetual license' model, and I would hope that it would NOT require an internet connection to run. A onetime login to set license and hardware, ala Win 7 did would be nice. And a onetime call to that nice lady for hardware upgrades.

Features I would like to see: A full databasing DOS. A small, tight kernel that is not only bug-free, but impervious to bugs. And, a new lick of paint that is not so monotoned...

I for one am curious about the "weight" of this new OS. looking back, if there's one thing I like more about Windows 8 is that it is significantly faster at booting and shutting down than Windows 10. my hardware is nothing high end so it's probably few seconds more than the techspot original review in 2015.

I'm guessing there will be more telemetry stuff to be added to Windows 11. whatever, you guys here check it first and let me know huh?

I'm betting either a major move towards SaaS with more cloud integration and subscription services, or a total nothingburger involving either "new icons" that look just plain worse

Yep, that's what I'm expecting.

or maybe they FINALLY finished the move from the old control panel to the metro settings menu that they started back with windows 8 in 2012

I think for a lot of users 98/98se were 95 refined and so by comparison it was a much better OS (kind of like Vista and Win7). Not perfect by any means, but much more stable and user friendly.

As for 2000 it wasn't really marketed to everyday windows users. It was meant to be the OS where NT and 9x were merged into one and would be the basis for windows going forward. But they changed their minds and decided that ME would be the last 9x OS. So other then people that sought it out not a lot of non NT users are familiar with it.
2000 being a mix of NT with 98‘s consumer features was what I liked about it. It ran rock solid.

Whatever it is it will follow the same old formula which means it will start off fairly lean and fast and end up getting slower and slower and will be more and more bloated till it falls apart and then they will markets another one (Windows 12), I'm fed up of Windows brand and it's constant breaking of drivers etc with each new update, we need a strong new competitor to break this expensive operating system that always breaks stuff every single update, please someone out their come up with a new operating system to replace this rubbish.

Hahahahhahhahhahahhaha

Dude, you've wasted your life
You could've been a commedian

I'm having ZERO issues with Windows XP here

All the bugs were stomped out long ago

GREAT security!
No malware since 2014 and no ransomware EVER!

I have ZERO Microsoft security updates and have stayed online in a full admin account with an antivirus that expired in 2015, yet I do not have ANY malware problems, ZERO blue-screens of death and ZERO borked updates to deal with

Aftermarket firewall blocks ALL Microsoft components from accessing the EvilNet

Good enough for multitasking and when compared to Spyware Platform 10, XP has vastly better options

Much better than Windows 7 as well (At least for a Windows Security Expert like me)

Feel free to follow the other lemming off the cliff with Windows 10
Enjoy the lack of control
Endlessly update your Windows malware on the treadmill that goes nowhere

We are happy for you
You should be proud to feel like just a number in the uncaring monopoly machine
The moment you praised Windows XP for "great security" is the moment you lost all credibility.

You mean like GTA5?

Yeah I play that on my XP machines a lot

I can swap to a Windows 10 Pro SSD, Windows 10 Enterprise, Windows 8.1 Home, Windows 8.1 Enterprise, Windows 7, Windows XP, Linux, Chromium and several other OS's I have here on separate SSD's

What was your point again?
He said current games not a 5 year + title. Tons of games n software do require win 10. More so like modern titles. While you can play some titles on older OSes, they don't give you best experience.

Oh well, pirated Windows will become huge again if they go down the same crap route as Adobe.
MS already allows pirated versions. They don't care. Now if you want full 10 you gotta have a license. How you get that, is up to you.

They did, their called Apple and Google. Have fun in their world. Goodluck.

As an insider and with many updates recently I noticed that my desktop (file / folders / links on desktop) had moved to onedrive. I found out when I tried deleting a file on my desktop and got msg that it will delete it everywhere on cloud as well.

I think they're trying for more cloud based options on windows but I hope I am wrong as I don't want to be connected all the time for my files to be accessible. I have not kept my one drive fully downloaded on my local drive as I only keep important stuff on it to be accessible from anywhere.
On the other hand I also don't want them to turn windows back to mobile/tablet friendly version like they tried with win8. Most websites are now catering to mobile/tab version making everything big and teen friendly. I along with millions of insiders will probably get a preview version much earlier than the launch date and will be able to provide feedback.

When did I mention Windows XP? I did not (note I mentioned next version windows 11, meaning I was talking about win 10, I was talking about Windows 10 the latest build, also why are you using XP? I'll tell you why because it was lean and fast, which Win 10 isn't. Yes I agree malware is practically gone and security is pretty good, but why with every update does it break something? sometimes bricking PC's or Graphics Cards. I'm sorry but I don't agree, I get little trouble for the first few years then it slowly gets worse and worse till it breaks drivers, graphic settings, owner game saves, etc, sorry if you don't like it I don't mean to upset you but it's just my opinion and experience, that's why people prefer windows XP cos it was slim and efficient. Also when did I mention win XP? I didn't.

GTA V is five years old and you have SSDs with all the other operating systems anyway. So what you are saying is it runs old games that were released when it was supported and you fall back to newer OSs if you need to run anything current. Also you are happy to use XP with no security patches because you think your firewall and antivirus will catch everything. I assume you aren’t using that OS for your online banking. Sounds like a waste of time to me. Maybe as well just buy yourself a Mac.

GTA 5 came out 8 years ago. Your point is completely redundant. Keep trying though.

The moment you praised Windows XP for "great security" is the moment you lost all credibility.

I feel like some of you younger folk that never really grew up with windows XP even knows what you are talking about.

Windows XP was horrible when it came to failing. Especially if you overclocked. Sure it started off Slim, but 6 months later the OS would be so bogged down. Don't forget that most people remember XP on a Pentium4/Athlon XP/64 with a HDD for the OS. Core2Duos didnt come till the end of Windows XP, and for many of us that time was spent with Vista/Windows7. Even with my Athlon X2, Windows XP was a short live OS on that platform.

Even windows 7 is pretty antique after you get accustom to windows 10 and the much improved workflow.

I currently manage about 40 windows machines and about two dozen 4G connected ipads at my local office. Never once had any issue with windows 10 itself. Granted they are all prebuilt machines (Dell). As a power user myself, while I have had small issues with windows 10 on personal machines, nothing crazy.

I've had Windows 7 updates that nuked the install, this is why you should think before installing updates day one. I've had it with XP too, and I've read of people having these issues from every version of windows. I've had major Linux updates cripple the system in use, and I've had Major Mac OS Updates that really screwed the system up. When you've been around a lot of machines. I've yet to see a OS that is perfect.

Considering I've been using computers since you needed to type "win" on the DOS command prompt to start windows. Windows 10 has been a pretty solid OS.

And just because you played with XP SP3 in a VM located on a SSD, and think that it doesnt use a lot of storage and ram as a fresh install is impressive. You never really used it as a daily driver.

Windows 10 from 2015 and Windows 10 from 2021 are nothing alike. They are practically two different operating systems.

For me windows 10 is best then windows 7

WIndows XP and all older OS have never been good. A lot of issue, bugs, poor security/firewal, not great for multi-taskings, very limited options. etc. WIndows 7 was massive improvement over it in every possible way. All all older OS were pain to use and not user friendly.

WinXP was the most intuitive OS Microsoft made. It had bugs, but so has every version including 10. At least with XP I don't ever remember an update that screwed up your system the way it has with 10, and more than once.

Win7 was decent. Win10 is spyware. I use it for gaming and that's it. Otherwise I use Win7 on an older machine and for the machine I game on, when I'm not gaming, it runs Ubuntu (2 OSs on one PC), and since I like the MATE DE, which is an offshoot of Gnome 2, it is far and away the best desktop experience for me personally and for all the software I used from Windows, it either runs it or there is replacement software I use. I don't use Microsoft Office for instance for about 5 years now. My wife's machine runs it though on Win8.1 (which at least isn't spyware), and I'll use it because of Visio. I could run replacement software for it under Ubuntu but I've used Visio now for about 15 years so I'd rather stick with it.

The only Win versions that had a good File/Windows Explorer is Win98, ME and XP and XP was the best. Later than XP have behaviors that are stupid. I can at least load Windows classic shell over Win7 and fix the stupid behaviors of File Explorer, but the creator of that software gave up on Win10 because it changes too much.

Honestly Win10 is about the worst thing you can put onto a business system because you need consistency. You can't have employees get frustrated because the way the machine is configured gets changed by the OS.

Finding settings in Win10 is total GARBAGE. A tiled interface isn't good for a PC. It really means you get an ugly DE since you have HUGE buttons staring at you. Win10 pushes its store at you and requires much more customization for me to tolerate it for every day use. Updates can screw up your settings. Right clicks are much less powerful (options) than with XP.

With XP, you got almost everything from clicking the start button. What a NOVEL idea. Find almost everything from a single click! Then the quick launch bar which was easier to customize

I used to say I like Windows because it stays out of your way, but Win10 has been the most invasive piece of CRAP, and if I didn't need it for DX12/DX12 Ultra, I wouldn't touch it. But hey, it got me off my butt to try Linux and I discovered that I like Ubuntu MATE way more than Windows, any version, well, other than the default file explorer, but the neat thing about Linux is you can import many tools, so I actually have 2 file explorers on the system, and one comes with a bulk rename utility. Pretty convenient. Now it's Linux, or for me it's really Ubuntu that stays out of my way and lets me get to the things I want to do without bothering me. It's also faster than Win10 and is better for multi-tasking than any Win version. It also moves files faster. I'm one click away from everything I do on a normal basis, and it doesn't take up screen space since everything is on a taskbar. I could also go through a menu system like what XP gives. I can even launch settings from a taskbar. It also gives a 2nd bar (one top, one bottom) which gets out of your way and it shows open apps, so if you're running a lot of apps at once, you don't get an overly crowded taskbar if you're the kind of person who pins a lot of stuff to the taskbar.

I think that sums up my issues with Win10, and the best part about it for me was leading me to Ubuntu MATE.

If Windows 11 (or whatever else MS names it) is cloud-based and subscription-based, then Microsoft wasn't bullshitting back in 2015. Windows 10 will really become the last version of Windows, at least for most us...
Yes, last version for me too.

I don't think you ever really used windows 10.

Nor have you ever really used windows XP.

Sneeze too hard and Windows XP will corrupt its registry.

I question if you were even an adult in the age of Windows XP... If you lived in the era of XP, and went through each service pack (SP1,SP2,SP3) along with queuing up windows updates via the Update Website with Internet Explorer. As XP didn't have a built in update selector, just autoupdate manager. It was not rainbows that you think it was.

Also I think you are confusing Windows 8 and 10. 10 doesn't really have a title interface and really only a part of the start menu has the option to show the old classic tiles. Which is actually pretty handy as quick launches. And I don't know of anything that ever required anyone to install something from the MS Store XD.

I think people are overthinking things. Just wait for the announcement. Windows 11 wouldn't need to be a surprise, OS versions usually also include new file systems, new hardware limits among other things that quite frankly, if people haven't been testing via betas and internal channels, it's just not happening. It's likely just going to boast the UI makeover that may change some how people use the OS. This is like seeing Jesus in your toast type of article, seriously.

Many will not run at all on Windows 10

I point being, I can use whatever software I like, but you cannot do that with newer hardware locking you in to a gimped system

I have a "Personal Computer" which many of you have never actually seen in your lifetime
