Have kept using it cuz that's what we've used since our first
computer maybe 10 yrs ago.

Since then have had Excite as our home page and email,
lots of stuff on their home page I like.

Anyway, the latest Netscape won't let me use Excite as
a home page, so have kept with a version that's 2 versions
older, 7.0.

Not sure, but I do believe it's Netscape that's blocking me
from doing a lot of stuff. Every once in awhile I have to go
to IE (which I try to avoid if possible) for uploading or
downloading something.

Trouble is, I can't get log onto my Excite home page or
email from IE.

ANYWAY - is Firefox still the preferred alternative to IE?
And will it allow me to use Excite as a home page?

Sick of messing around with it!

Thanks!

Yes, Firefox is the number one browser by far and is far superior to IE 6 and Netscape 7.0. And yes, it will allow u to use Excite as ur homepage. I would highly recommend it. Go to http:\\www.getfirefox.com to get it.

I agree that Firefox is a very good browser and far better than IE. However, I have my doubts as to whether it will allow you to access all of the content of the Excite website.

When I went to the Excite website, I was able to view the home page without problems, but when I clicked on email I got a message saying my browsers settings were wrong etc.

By all means give it a try and see what happens.

How's that Howard? I clicked on the Email link and the sign in page loaded up just fine.

Maybe my Firefox browsers settings are wrong then, or possibly I went to the wrong site lol. Can you give me a link to that page please?

I never seem to have a problem with other websites though, apart from the odd one or two that insist on using ActiveX.

Thanks for that info! I asked becuz I had tried getting into Excite
thru IE when I had trouble downloading something and it kept
telling me my browser wouldn't let me sign into the email, something
about the cookie settings. I tried working with the cookie settings
but could not get it to open thru IE.

But I'll surely give it a whirl.

At this stage of the game I can't hardly abandon excite, been on
their email for something like 10 years, and I've got a lot of stuff
customized on their website, some of which I'm quite sure I'd never
get on another Home Page site.

Well, took the plunge, Firefox sure looks like the clear deal!

At first, from the Firefox start page, I was able to open Excite
and log in and get email. So, I thought, "no problem"!

Then I got into Firefox setups, and put Excite as my Home Page.
THEN I couldn't even open Excite, let alone log on.

Messed around looking at the settings awhile in the toolbar, then
noticed a box at the BOTTOM of the page that said "Scripts Forbidden"
and an Options button that let me allow Scripts just for Excite.

Now Excite works just dandy!

Thanks, all, for the great info!!

I think I've just said "bye bye" to Netscape.

And that's the beauty of giving the user good feedback and control :giddy:

Well, a couple hours on Firefox and I am SOLD baby!

Everything on the net even opens MUCH quicker than
it did with Netscape, and no more "connection refused"
or "cannot be found" crap!

And all my security stuff (AVG Free, Ewido, Sygate
Personal Firewall, Ad Aware & Watch, etc etc, all
seems to do just fine right alongside whatever
FF has built in.

Thanks SO much!

I`m glad your problem is solved.

I had my doubts, but then again I didn`t know for sure.

Thanks for letting us know.

Regards Howard :)
