Keyboard isn't working in Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast

I recently purcharsed a Microsoft Desktop Laser 600 version 2.0 and when I try playing JK2, the wsad keys dont work very well. I will hold down w and i stop moving after 2 seconds, you cannot hop very well. also jump isnt that great also. Could there be a compatibility issue with old games and newer keyboards? The reason i purchased a newer keyboard is becuase i was having the same problem with a Microsoft Wireless Desktop Elite. Any help would be appreciated.
